I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

Our Bodies, Temples for your Spirit--Feb. 25, 2016

From heaven you looked at the earth,
you heard the groans of the prisoners,
and you set free those doomed to die.

We are not our own--our bodies are
a gift from you, bought with a price,
temples in which your Spirit dwells.

O God, may our lives be open and honest--
nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed;
nothing is secret that will not come to light.

            …from heaven the LORD looked at the earth,
to hear the groans of the prisoners,
            to set free those who were doomed to die…

Gen. 42:29-31
When [the brothers] came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them, saying, "The man, the lord of the land, spoke harshly to us, and charged us with spying on the land.  But we said to him, 'We are honest men, we are not spies.  …'"

1 Cor. 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?  For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

Mark 4:22
For there is nothing hidden, except to be disclosed; nor is anything secret, except to come to light.
