I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.
Jesus, as You Led the Blind Man--Jan. 31, 2016

Jesus, to keep your way is to do righteousness
and justice; to live in your Spirit is to bear
fruit of love, peace, patience, kindness,
generosity, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self control.  Lead us in right paths.
As you took the blind man by his hand and
led him out of his village, take us by the hand;
lead us, lead us wherever you would have us go.

Lectionary Readings
Ps. 108; 150; 66; 23
Gen. 18:16-33
Gal. 5:13-25

Selected Verses
Ps. 23:3b
[The LORD] leads me in right paths
          for his name’s sake.

Gen. 18:19
"…No, for I have chosen [Abraham], that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; so that the LORD may bring about for Abraham what he has promised him."  [The LORD]

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Mark 8:23
[Jesus] took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; and when he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, "Can you see anything?"
