I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

I. Readings
Psalms 97, 115, 124
Exodus 12:14-27
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Mark 16:1-8

II. Selections
Psalm 124:6
Blessed be the LORD,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth.

Exodus 12:17
You shall observe the festival of unleavened bread, for on this very day I brought your companies out of the land of Egypt; you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a perpetual ordinance.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures ...

Mark 16:7
" ...But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you." [ The young man dressed in white to the three women]

III. Meditation: Not as prey
We bless your name,
you have not given us as prey
to the teeth of our enemies.

You have charged us to tell
the stories of our rescue,
how you brought your people out of Egypt.

And how Christ died for our sins,
and was buried,
and was raised on the third day.

You have told us to tell,
as you instructed the three women;
they fled in fear-will we?
