II. Selections
Psalm 88:8b-9
I am shut in so that I cannot escape;
my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call on you, O LORD;
I spread out my hands to you.
Malachi 3:1a
See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple.
James 5:7a
Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord.
Luke 18:7-8
" ...And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" [ Jesus to his disciples]
III. Meditation: For faithful waiting
Every day we call on you, O God.
Shut in, no escape, eyes dim through sorrow,
we spread our hands and call on you.
Day and night we cry to you.
Will you not grant justice?
Will your help be long delayed?
Grant us patience in our waiting,
that when suddenly you come,
you will find us faithful.
