II. Selections
Psalm 88:12
Are your wonders known in the darkness,
or your saving help in the land of forgetfulness?
Isaiah 50:1
The LORD GOD has given me
the tongue of a teacher,
that I may know how to sustain
the weary with a word.
Morning by morning he wakens-
wakens my ear
to listen as those who are taught.
Galatians 3:22
But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Mark 6:48
When [ Jesus] saw that [ his disciples] were straining at the oars against an adverse wind, he came towards them early in the morning, walking on the sea. He intended to pass them by.
III. Meditation: Are your wonders known in the darkness?
God, give us the tongue of a teacher,
that we may have words for the weary;
and waken our ears to listen,
so we hear what the weary would say.
Do not let us pass by
those who strain at the oars
when the wind is adverse
and forgetfulness wallows in darkness.
Sin has the power to imprison,
but you have the power to make free.
Quiet the waves that engulf them;
do not forsake them at sea.
