I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

I. Readings
Psalms 92, 149
Ezekiel 43:1-12
Hebrews 9:1-14
Luke 11:14-23

II. Selections
Psalm 92:2-3
[ It is good] to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.

Ezekiel 43:1-2
Then he brought me to the gate, the gate facing east. And there, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east; the sound was like the sound of mighty waters; and the earth shone with his glory.

Hebrews 9:11
But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come ...

Luke 11:23
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

III. Meditation: Good things

I. When we face the light in the east
and hear the sound of mighty waters,
and the earth shines with your glory,
then it is good to declare
your steadfast love
in the morning,
your faithfulness
by night.

II. Christ came as high priest
of the good things
that have come.
Give us wisdom
to be with him,
not against him;
strength to gather with him
and not scatter.
