II. Selections
Psalm 25:1
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
Amos 9:14
I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word.
John 5:44
" ...How can you believe when you accept glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the one who alone is God? ... " [ Jesus to those who criticized him for healing on the Sabbath]
III. Meditation: We lift up our soul
We lift up our soul to you, O God.
Comfort our hearts and strengthen
them in every good work and word.
Restore the fortunes of war's victims,
that they may again live in their homes
and enjoy the fruits of their labors.
O source of comfort and good hope,
we have no need for human glory-
only the glory that comes from you.
