I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

II. Selections
Psalm 113:4

and his glory above the heavens.

Exodus 16:10
And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the Israelites, they looked toward the wilderness, and the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

1 Peter 2:12
Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that, though they malign you as evildoers, they may see your honorable deeds and glorify God when he comes to judge.

John 15:27
" ...You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. ... " [ Jesus to the eleven]

III. Meditation: Your glory

As you are high above all nations;
so your glory is above the heavens.

Yet your glory appeared in a cloud
when Aaron spoke to the Israelites
and they looked to the wilderness.

You call us to testify to your glory,
even though maligned for testifying,
to say with deeds as well as words-
in Christ we have seen your glory.
