II. Selections
Psalm 147:10
His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner ...
Micah 3:11
[ Israel's] rulers give judgment for a bribe,
its priests teach for a price,
its prophets give oracles for money;
yet they lean upon the LORD and say,
"Surely the LORD is with us!
No harm shall come upon us."
Revelation 8:13
Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew in midheaven, "Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!"
Luke 10:20
" ...Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." [ Jesus to the seventy disciples after their return]
III. Meditation: What makes for delight
How many blasts of the trumpet will you provide
to warn us of our errors and misplaced priorities?
Your delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor is your pleasure in the speed of a runner.
Dishonest leaders score no points with you
when they lean on you to protect them.
And even if you use us to do miracles,
we must not take pride in ourselves,
but only rejoice that you know us.
