I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

I. Readings
Psalms 17, 50, 53
Isaiah 6:1-13
2 Thessalonians 1:1-12
John 7:53-8:11

II. Selections
Psalm 17:7
Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O savior of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.

Isaiah 6:3
And one [ seraph] called to another and said,
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory."

2 Thessalonians 1:12
...so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 8:11
And Jesus said [ to the woman caught in adultery], "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again."

III. Meditation: Full of your glory

O Lord of hosts, the whole earth is full of your glory.
Over and again you have shown your steadfast love;
you have saved those who seek refuge at your hand,
even as Jesus saved the woman caught in adultery.
By your grace, save us, that the name of Jesus
may be glorified in us, and we in him.
