I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

To the End of the Age, Christ with Us Always--May 28, 2014

O God of our salvation,
to you belongs escape from death.
One like a human being came with the clouds
of heaven and presented himself before you.
He shared flesh and blood with us, so that
through death he might destroy the one
who has the power of death, the devil,
and free us who by the fear of death
were held in slavery.  And Christ is
with us always, to the end of the age.

Ps. 68:20
Our God is a God of salvation,
and to GOD, the Lord, belongs escape from death.

Dan. 7:13
As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven.  And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him.

Heb. 2:14-15
Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, [Jesus] himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death.

Matt. 28:20b
"…And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."  [Jesus to his eleven disciples]
