What shall I return to you, O God,
for all your goodness to me?
Shall I promise to do everything
you have asked me to do?
Shall I depend upon the goodness
of my ancestry to pay you?
Or shall I lead a life worthy of you,
fully pleasing to you, as I
bear fruit in every good work, and
grow in knowledge of you?
None of these would suffice, not
even the sum of all together.
