I am an emeritus professor from Cornell University and was a Commissioned Lay Preacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA). For many years I have followed the Daily Lectionary as printed in the Mission Yearbook of my church. For each day of a two-year cycle, the lectionary lists four psalms and three other scriptural passages--usually one from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. My practice is to copy down a verse or two from one of the psalms and from each of the other three passages. After I have written out all four selections, I reflect upon them, rearrange their order, and incorporate them into a meditation. Sometimes I retain much of the original wording; sometimes all that remains of a selection is an idea that was stimulated when I read the original words. All selections are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. For the Daily Lectionary, see the link below.

Happy Are Those Who Trust in God--March 24, 2019

O Lord God of hosts,
happy are all who trust in you.
When we trust in you, there is no need
to be greedy for unjust gain, or to deal falsely.
Trusting in you, we know that we were bought
for a price--a terrible price--and that our body
is a temple for your Holy Spirit within us,
and so we glorify you in our body.
Happy are we when we trust
in you, and we want to
tell it to others.

Selected Verses
Ps. 84:12
O LORD of hosts,
happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Jer. 6:13
For from the least to the greatest of them,
          everyone is greedy for unjust gain;
          and from prophet to priest,
          everyone deals falsely.

1 Cor. 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?  For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

Mark 5:19
But Jesus refused, and said to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you."
