O God, you are generous to all people;
you intend that we should feast on the abundance
of your house and drink from the river of your delights.
But we refuse to listen to you or those who speak for you.
We covet the honors and benefits that others enjoy;
we are jealous of anyone more important.
God, have mercy on us;
Christ have mercy.
