God of Mercy, God of Compassion,
you do not willingly afflict or grieve anyone,
but you watched the one whom you loved most
being poured out like water on the cross
and laid in the dust of death.
Peter did not understand
where his Lord was going,
but eventually he followed him.
Prepare our minds for action;
help us discipline ourselves,
as we set all our hope
on the grace that
Christ revealed.

Ps. 22:14-15
I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
it is melted within my breast;
my mouth is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.
Lam. 3:31-33
Although [the Lord] causes grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not willingly afflict or grieve anyone.
1 Peter 1:13
Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.
John 13:36
Simon Peter said to [Simon Peter], “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now; but you will follow afterward.”
